BIOGRAPHICAL DATA

PASTOR JOSÉ LAURINDO FILHO is the fourth Brazilian to pastor the FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF NITERÓI, in its 114 years of existence (1892 – 2006), and is the third senior pastor of this church, following Pr. Dr. EBENEZER SOARES FERREIRA who led the congregation in an interim, but prolific, period from March 2005 until September 1st, 2006, when major turbulence threatened to collapse upon our souls.

We wish to present to our brothers and sisters some biographical data of our beloved pastor extracted from the Invitation-Program printed and distributed upon the occasion of his assuming office, whom the Lord Our God had already set apart to pastor our church, even before the Pastoral Search Committee had selected his name to pastor the FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF NITERÓI.

To God be all the honor and glory for we have received from the heavens this precious jewel who is PASTOR JOSÉ LAURINDO FILHO to lead us, guided by the Son of God, our beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We give the data:

PASTOR JOSÉ LAURINDO FILHO was born into a Christian home, whose parents Jose and Emiliana, fervent and dedicated Christians, instructed their children in the holy way of Jesus Christ.  He converted at 9 years old and afterwards was baptized at 11 years old, on April 24th, 1966, at the Alegre Baptist Church, in the state of Espirito Santo.  At 14, he was a teacher in the Sunday School Department, of that church, for Juniors and Teenagers.  At 15, he moved to Campo Grande, in the city of Cariocica, in the state of Espirito Santo.  Five years after his conversion, in 1969, began to preach when his first message was at an open-air service and since then has nevermore stopped preaching.

In 1973, with his basic studies already completed, submitted himself to the entrance exam for The Federal University of Espirito Santo, where he reached the victory coming to graduate in 1976, in Mathematics.  But this was not to be his path, the Lord God had already separated His servant for His harvest to resolve other problems even more intricate that those of exacting math.  In 1977, Pastor Laurindo did not turn away, heard the call of his and our God and entered The Baptist Theological Seminary of Southern Brazil, concluding his degree in 1980.  As a seminary student, in 1979 and 1980, he served at the First Baptist Church of Campo Grande, in Rio de Janeiro.  Upon the completion of his degree in 1980, he received the invitation to become the pastor of The First Baptist Church of Cuiaba, in the state of Mato Grosso.

On January 17th, 1981, exchanged wedding vows with Loyde, with whom he later had three daughters: Michelle, Rebeca and Haniele.  In September of 1988, he went to England to study and assist in the promotion of Missions, through the Baptist Missionary Society of Great Britain, remaining there until August of 1994.  During this time he had the opportunity to preach in 165 churches, from north and south, and east to west in Great Britain, in addition to serving as an interim pastor at The Baptist Church of Versailles, in greater Paris.  Upon the conclusion of his studies in England, he received the invitation to become the pastor of The First Baptist Church of Campo Grande, in Rio de Janeiro, where he remained for nearly 12 years and from where we sought him.

Among his ministry accomplishments we highlight:

  • Pastor, The First Baptist Church of Cuiaba, Mato Grosso
